I'm looking for something definitive on this. Is PM history? Is VON
history? Does this have implications for FWD?

Not surprising when VON really became an Asterisk advertising agency.

Thanks for your incredible insight.

My question stands. We've had someone point to a blog full of rumour.
We've had Steve reply with some truly epic commentary. Now, what's
actually happening?

Alice, why repost a thread that was dead after one reply? It makes no sense.

I suggest that you call or email Jeff.

Who cares what is going on? Von was a niche in th late 90s early
2000's, that niche is gone to mainstream tech.

I suggest that Jeff and his staff read "Who Moved my Cheese" Who made
Jeff Pulver the VoIP authority anyways? Is he a self proclaimed VoIP
guru? Did he write any RFCs or serve on any committees (I really
don't know)..

All the info you could need or want is on the internet, who needs VON?

Thanks,
Steve Totaro

By the way, anything with the name "Media" in it is just selling
commercials. I don't really care to go to a trade show to see
commercials first hand, nor do I want a magazine with little content
and many commercials.

I guess she posted it because the question still remains.....is there
going to be an astricon.

And as for who moved my cheese...read it...thought it had some merit but
was hardly revolutionary, go read Flip - by Peter Sheehan - contains
more ideas in the first chapter than the entire Cheese series.

As for reading on the internet.....that's not the point of Astricon.
Meeting in person has far more value than solitary reading online.

Alice, I guess the answer is....we don't know at the moment. If Digium
had an answer they would have posted it a week ago, as an exhibitor I
haven't heard anything yet either so don't worry it's not like some of
us know what's going on.

Digium Acquires Astricon
July 11, 2007
Rich has the skinny on Digium acquiring Sokol & Associates. Sokol &
Associates runs the popular Astricon tradeshow and Asterisk IP-PBX training
programs. Interesting how Digium, an open-source hardware and software
company is now technically a tradeshow company and an Asterisk training
company.

Dean,

VON and Astricon are not the same thing although VON has is becomming
a copy or form of Astricon.

I seriously doubt Astricon will be canceled since about a month ago, I
was asked to speak there again this year (Large Scale Call Centers).
Besides, that the turnout and value was awesome.

To restate so it soaks thorugh "VON and Astricon are NOT the same
thing!!!" Try google.

Thanks,

I could be wrong, but Pulvermedia has NOTHING to do with Astricon.
Digium runs the show.

would appear that it's a sufficiently high-level connection that if

Give me one reference. All I have seen is Pulver events focusing more
and more on Asterisk, Mark Spencer, and the Adtran guys.

Did you attend Astricon? I spoke.

I saw no Pulver Media sponsored advertising whatsoever. Wouldn't they
have a benner that they were "Supporting" Astricon?

Final note. I did not have to pay since I was a speaker but at $500 a
pop times 300-500 attendees, it is profitable.

I will go with the lower 300 attendee number $500x300=$150,000. I
personally think there may have been more attendees but don't have the
proof.

Why cut someonthing that brings in $150,000 at least in one week
(minus the time and materials to get everything arranged, which
hotels/conference centers are all to willing to help).

Quote:

there's a connection, and that's really enough, no?

No, it is not enough. A simple statement from one of the Adtran Guys,
Jared Smith, or even Mark Spencer would quickly dispell this
misinformation or FUD.

Thanks,
Steve Totaro
